There’s no question that radio suffers from a (mis)perception problem. It’s perceived that Millennials & GenZ in particular, are allergic to the radio. Nope; not quite the case, and Edison Research is providing some answers to your outstanding questions.
In their Q3, 2016 “Share of Ear” study, they’ve identified a number of insights, like; inroads made by streaming pure-plays are primarily at the expense of owned music listening; AM/FM radio maintains a share of ear 8x greater than Pandora and 18x larger than Spotify; radio maintains the majority of its listening outside the home nearest retail occurrences, compared to streaming which is taking place primarily in the home; and the majority of streamed listening comes from a very small subset of users.
